LA TIERRA ESTÁ CANSADA // THE EARTH IS TIRED
|
THERE IS WISDOM underground. Perhaps if we attend the wisdom in seeds buried deep, and in soaring canopies reaching toward the skies, our singing might light a path toward a clearer future without war, with clean air and waters, and abundant forests teeming with life.
This July, VOICES 21C is heading to Mexico to be in community with artists at Puebla’s Instituto Superior de Música Esperanza Azteca (ISMEA), Mexico City’s Voce in tempore, and UNAM’s Coro posgrado. We’ll work together to assemble a program titled LA TIERRA ESTÁ CANSADA//The Earth is Tired.
There isn't a more urgent issue for us in this moment, and we understand climate justice to be an intersection for many pressing challenges we care about, such as militarism and ceaseless war, imprisonment and the politics of human dispossession, rampant capitalism and extractive greed, gender-based violence and patriarchy, border imperialism and forced migration, and more. VOICES 21C is leaning close to our first teachers– trees, seas, birds in the sky, bees and all kinds of pollinators– in hopes that we can inspire repair to create a future that will sustain us all. We’re searching for roots, and we want you to join us.
If you believe that artists have a role in articulating a more liveable future for all of us, please consider donating to support our work in Mexico this summer. Every dollar supports peace-building projects that elevate social justice causes around the world, and help weave networks of singing that bring us closer into loving relationship with each other. We can do great things together.
In relentless hope,
VOICES 21C
